Art Tools Restoration Project

Rashmi Tater here,

The most used of our tools are our brushes and we happen to replace them every now and then! None of us really wish to part with those creative tools which act like our magic fingers...Agree?

Most of you must have agreed. So, today I am here at the ItsyBitsy blog as a GDT and I am going to create a salvage project focusing on RESTORING the much loved brushes.

The newly launched, paper crafting medley (Olivia ) and the Alcohol splashes have been my buddies for the project.
So without a further ado! lets checkout what I created...

Tutorial:

I have a pictorial for you guys to enjoy and try and create something with all the left over or to salvage pieces in your stash! "Go get creative"!!

Take a base : I have taken a flat frame

Using silicon glue, glue down the mosaic pieces (I have taken broken lamp glass pieces.) Then stick the brushes and any empty tube and allow to completely dry.

Gesso the entire layout (2 coats)

Now start layering the Olivia elements. I also sprinkled some sand to add texture.

I added pearl lace to all the sides of the frame and few individual pearls too.

Gesso it all again and allow to dry !

Now play around with your alcohol splash and enjoy!!

Mixed Media Canvas ...Try, Try, Try again ......

Hi friends, Suman here,

Today I am sharing a mixed media canvas with you using the Color Splash and Gold Alcohol Splash sprays.

I really struggled with this one and tried many a times to work on this canvas. I will show you some picturess of my trials and failures with this one......

First time I created some texture on the background and added some random found objects like a plastic spoon, electronic parts, a plastic lid, dried paint brush and a broken plug with silicon glue and some metallic acrylic paint.......I even tore something out from the center of the composition (don't even remember what it was :) and it lied neglected for want of ideas ......

Then after few weeks I picked it again and tried some Alcohol Splash colors and Itsy Bitsy flowers and a bird bought from Itsy Bitsy long time ago.........I succeeded in creating MUD on the background :(

Can this be salvaged??? Very unhappy with myself........so it went back in the corner teasing me time and again ...........well........after few days I tried dry brushing with white Gesso on all the flowers, playing with a sentiment ......but.....even more unhappy with the results....and this time I seriously thought of throwing it in the bin.........

Well........to cut a long story short, am glad I did not give up :) while doing another canvas, I added Gesso randomly to the background and sprayed with Color Splash inks in Yellow, Blue, Pink and Green all over the canvas.......changed the composition ( if you see, the bird now sits in a different place perched on an ice cream stick and the canvas is turned so that the flowers are in a horizontal arrangement)........let the inks dry completely and then added four to five layers of dry brushing with white gesso with drying in between to bring out the textures ......

Am sure happy that I did not give up, the outcome is even more beautiful than anything I had thought when I started it! So today no step -by-step cause it did not happen that way but a simple tale of 'Never to give up' God has more in store for you than you can ever Imagine...

Scrap board with Mixed Media with Alcohol splash

Hello Crafty Souls,

This is Sharada Dilip here with my creation using Itsy Bitsy's newly launched 'Gold Alcohol Splash '.

My creation today is totally an effect of my trip this weekend to the sea aquarium. The trip has inspired me to go overboard and be bold with my creation, I chose the colours for the project with my son's help, so this is a team effort !

Here I have tried to recreate a underwater scene for the background on the canvas! I love the shades and how sparkly they are due to the gold effect ...... so perfect for the Sea theme , what say?

I began with directly using the spray on the canvas , totally love the effect.

Instantly used the blending solution to give the special effects and lighten the shades wherever I felt it was necessary, got to work quickly as these inks dry very fast.

Once again I sprayed the same three colors, this time to create stains and and let them dry. Once dried, they start looking like the jelly fishes we saw at the aquarium
