Chalkpaint altered DIY nightlamp with embroidery hoop

Hello girls! Angela here. Back again with a new tutorial :)

Do you like making 'out-of-the-box' innovative stuff? Well I do and I love it when people compliment saying "I never knew I could use them this way!". Without further delay I am revealing today's tutorial - Chalk paint altered DIY night lamp with embroidery hoop.

I turned an embroidery hoop into pretty tiny night lamp and I love the way it looks both at night and during the day. I used chalk paints and burlap to get the vintage yet chic look that it carries.

I had previously used frozen ice shade of chalk paint in my hexagon wall shelf tutorial and I absolutely loved the super matte coverage it gave. So I experimented with other shades and I am falling in love with it over and over again!

I started off with a burlap sheet in A4 size and marked the area that would come inside the embroidery hoop I had. I took a flat painting brush to paint over the marked area with pink ballet chalk paint. As much as I wanted the burlap to be pink, I did not want to ruin its textures so I painted in layers by making sure I wasn't dropping too much paint that might fill up the gaps.

One good thing about the burlap sheet was that it had this plastic coating at the opposite side so Even at places where excess paint was there, it dint not spill out! I also decoupaged this pretty roses border from pretty in pink paper stack from Itsy Bitsy just for a flowery background at the top portion.

While I was busy painting the burlap, I gave the embroidery hoop to my daughter and she was so cautiously painting them with fortune cookie chalk paint. Oh she loves doing what I do and she makes sure that she has used each and every one of my craft supplies!

Once both had dried, I placed the burlap into the embroidery hoop and cut out the excess portions. My intention was to have this embroidery loop with flowers around and a nice quote or so to be hand embroidered on my burlap fabric. But I realized that even if I hand embroider, it wont be visible at all so I changed plans to add a gold shade monogram for my craft room or graces nursery (not yet decided!). But the flower plans I did not throw away! I wanted to keep every component of the project in more or less the same tone and texture so I made flowers with burlap sheets to go around the embroidery hoop.

Well but before that the burlap sheet needed some more detail to go with the plain shade in pink.I used these pretty flowers stencil to add pretty design with chalk paint in the shade frozen ice. What I love about the chalk paints is that almost all the shades go with each other :) I added a little blings at the center of the stenciled flower with silicon glue and it was just perfect.

I used the same burlap sheets with plastic coating to make flowers and I did it with the help of scallop flower die from Itsy bitsy. I observed that since the nature of burlap is different from that of paper, the die did not cut it out as nicely as I anticipated but if you place the cutting side of die facing the plastic side, you get a much better diecut.

Well so here is how the cut out burlap looked like and I painted the edges first with various shades again using the chalk paints. My personal favourite remains the one painted with pink ballet shade.  As you can see I did not paint the entire thing because I wanted it to have a little gradient in shade so the flower has more depth.

Once the paint dried, its pretty simple to assemble it - just keep forming a roll starting from outside to inside and place the roll on the small circle at the center. Let the roll uncoil a little bit and then you can adjust the coil to make sure the petals look okayish in their positions and when you are done, place a dollop of silicon glue on the center circle and hold the roll over it for 2 min till it dries.

I would have left it as such but then I felt the edges were not that defines since it was burlap. I used 3d liner in white shade to cover the edges of the entire swirl of petal and now it was perfect.

I bunched up pollens and tied them with a flower wire and inserted them right through the center of the flower to fill up the center space. I varied the flowers by adding different shades on the petals, varying the pollen shade etc.

I arranged the flowers on the top of the embroidery hoop as if hanging along its border and added a few pretty fillers in white shade. Before you finalize the arrangement, place them in their positions till you are satisfied with the symmetry and then fix them by twisting all their wires together. I also added a few leaf structure with the help of leaf lace from Itsy Bitsy.

I felt the hanging leaf lace had a pretty effect on the flower bunch so I added a lace bow in the embroider hoop before adding the flowers bunch above them.

This is the final look of the chalk paint altered night lamp.

Hope you liked this project. Just another example of how you can transform ordinary things into pretty stuff with just few craft supplies in hand :)
