Beautiful Cards - Tejal Shah

Hello Crafty friends, we have a very special guest designer on our blog today, it’s none other than the very talented crafter / blogger Tejal Mehta Shah! An extremely dynamic & talented crafter, Tejal has done some elegant & stunning creations despite some health issues in the family! We deeply appreciate it Tejal & thank you for being our guest designer! Hop over to our blog friends & leave your valuable comments for Tejal.

Hello everyone,
Its Tejal here from Creative Expressions (www.tejalcreates.blogspot.in)
It is my pleasure to be posting on the Itsy bitsy blog today. It was during the blog and website relaunch that Itsy Bitsy team got in touch with me and very generously sent me some amazing products to review.

My post was due to go live during the Sizzix fest last month but due to some health issues I was unable to do so. And I really appreciate the team for understanding and giving me this extra time to post. Thanks guys.

Here is what my amazing gift pack held. Amazing pattern papers, beautiful embossing folder set from sizzix and Versacolor ink pads. Perfect for a cardmaker like me.

The first card -

I have embossed the white panel with the stars embossing folder and then used the pigment inks to ink up the raised area of the panel. I absolutely love how soft it looks.

So those ink pads can also be used for blending, other than just stamping!

I also used the cake embossing folder to emboss the cake on the rectangle panel. Colored it with my zig markers and popped it on a foam.

The sentiment is stamped with the Versacolor ink pad.

The second card -
In this card, I simply embossed the stars embossing folder with Blue cardstock.

Cut out a circle and embossed the cupcake on it.

Colored the cupcake with my copics (to be very honest, my niece who was visiting me wanted to help, so its actually her coloring! And I am amazing how neat she was..she is only 8)

I die cut the birthday greeting in black and white and offset to get a cool shadow effect.

Finished the card off with some sequins.

The third card -
I loved the Magenta PP that was sent...even though it was plain, I wanted to see if it had a white core..and voila!! it did

I simply embossed the PP and used my nail filer over it lightly...Wherever the edges were, the white core came out...and such a fantastic effect!

I also used some butterflies and colored them with....yup...the Versacolor inkpad. I just smooshed it on a plastic sheet and picked up the ink with my paint brush. I attached them at just the centre so the wings of the butterflies are lifted up.
I cut the panel on a diagonal before embossing and white heat embossed the sentiment.

Finished the card with some glitter and glossy accents.
And the final project that I will share soon (As soon as my health permits to finish it up) But I could not let you go without a sneak peek of it!
Thank you Team Itsy Bitsy. And I do hope you enjoyed my few inspirations.

Mixed Media Layout by Dr. M.V. Pratyusha

Hello Crafty friends, today we have another guest designer at the Itsy Bitsy blog. She is the extremely talented and versatile Dr. M.V. Pratyusha! She is a well-known name in the crafting industry and we are delighted and happy to have her with us today. Quilling is her forte, however, today she has tried her hands on mixed media. Check out the blog to see this amazing creation & please show your love by leaving your valuable comments for our guest designer.

Over to Pratyusha..

This is a mixed media layout.

Step by step guide by Pratyusha:

First I coated the 12x12 inch chipboard with 2 coats of gesso.

Used Tim Holtz damask stencil and the crafters workshop Art is stencil to
add in some texture using texture paste. I randomly stamped tim holtz script
stamp using black stazon ink.

Then cut different laces- A white broad one, rhinestone chain and a pink
lower lace to create a cluster in one side of the layout. To make the focal
point I made a cluster using doilies and used a pattern paper which reads
‘our great adventure’ from Poolside ephemera collection. The frame
Chipboard elements and the flowers are also added in.

The whole of the layout is then coated with watered down gesso. To bring the layout to getter I used Viva décor inka gold paints to add in highlights of gold color, violet, purple and pink.

The butterfly used here is a metal embellishment which is coated with gesso and a layer of viva décor inka gold- gold paint is added and buffed.
I then used the alphabet stamps from my stash to write the names to customize the layout!!

Her awesome creations remind me of a fairy tale garden filled with stunning flowers & Butterflies! Here are excerpts of my interview with Sampada

Rashmi Closepet, MD, Itsy Bitsy: Tell us a bit about yourself, your background? Where are you originally from, your Work, family etc?Sampada Srivastava: I am 25 years old and have done Bachelors in Computer Science. Currently working as a Software Engineer in IBM & I recently discovered my passion for crafting...a very creative side of mine. I am originally from Gorakhpur(UP), now based in Gurgaon.

RC : How did you get into crafting?
SS : I used to do sketching in my School days but to be very true I was never into crafting or aware of how vast this field is. Well it really is a story that how I get into crafting. I was working in Bangalore and there only I fortuitously bumped into Itsy Bitsy Store. I was never into crafting before that but we say it a twist of fate that I got to know about such wide range of craft supplies..and trust me I got crazy seeing all that in one place..and then and there only I bought pretty handful of craft supplies without even knowing what and how to use. Then I started doing R&D about Scrapbooking...My brother gave me my first order and there it started... I made one...two..three and the counting goes on... then just after few months I shifted to Gurgaon and gradually my crafting also lessened due to work, home etc. I didnt get much time to craft but I never stopped doing my R&D over it.and concurrently I realized that there is so much more I can do rather than sit in office and code all the time..This thought was steadily building up my passion for craft and somewhere I knew in my heart that this is what I want. And my setback turned into my comeback.. I am lucky that my Husband encouraged my decision whole heartedly then from around 4-5 months, I am again back to Crafting and now with more zest and great Enthusiasm.

RC : Why do you Craft? Or what do you like about crafting?
SS : Crafting has made my life better even my Mondays!!
This is something which has given me direction to do something new everyday. For me, Crafting is like Eat, Sleep, Craft & Repeat!
Obviously I do have a personal life too. LOL!
The most I like about Crafting is that you need not worry when you do mistake..because it may result in some unique creation.

RC : What is your favourite type of craft?
SS : Long list..but my most favourite is Scrapbooking and Mixed media.

RC : What is / are your favourite products at Itsy Bitsy?
SS : There are so many things in my list but I love the Embellishments esp Flowers and 3D stickers, Pattern papers, Stamps.

RC : What products from Itsy Bitsy do you think are must have’s for a crafter?
SS : Every Crafter must have Flower/Butterfly Embellishments and Pattern Papers from Itsy Bitsy

RC : What product would you like to see at Itsy Bitsy?
SS : I was so happy to see Stencils which was launched recently by Itsy Bitsy...but would like to see more Mixed media products like Sprays, also it would be great if you can add more Pattern paper packs

RC : You draw inspiration from ------------------
SS : I believe that until and unless you won't experiment, you won't grow....and there is great satisfaction in seeing my each and every project shaping up from scratch to end.
If you ask about my inspiration that it is hard to know exactly..Inspiration is something that can come from anywhere..It can be anything, any person, any incident...For me it kept on changing every now and then.. Its just that I keep experimenting with my craft materials, colors, themes.. I always try to be better from my previous artwork.

RC : What are your other pastimes?
SS : I like travelling and exploring new places & Shopping for craft supplies..I always think I won't buy any craft supplies now until I finish what I have but it never happens. LOL

RC : What would you be doing if you were not crafting?
SS : Don't know..If not crafting then I am still an Engineer by profession.

RC : If you had magic powers, what would you want to contribute to the Crating world ?
SS : If I can contribute anything to crafting world then it would be the crafting awareness and resources for craft supply needs to small towns. There is astounding and amazingly talented people out there which still have not encountered their talent so it is very important to expose this supressed talent. The growing crafters will in return make the crafting world grow more.

RC : What is your most treasured possession in your craft stash?
SS : I love each and every stuff..but my most treasured one is my Big Shot Plus, it was gifted by my husband so it's Close to my heart.

RC : What do you do when you’re suffering a creative block?
SS : I constantly keep notes of what I do...any creative idea, thought, motivational quotes(it keeps you going) and when I get stumped ..I stop work just go through that and it helps..That will sound funny but I create scrapbook in my mind..layouts in my head before I touch my materials to actually start with...
Also I feel like we need to be little easy with regards to creative blocks. May be you need that time to chill out!

RC : How would you describe your style of crafting?
SS : I do not have any fixed style..I keep on trying to create something unique and better each time. I try to learn everyday..and implement it in my work and it defines my style of work. It's my High-way to Happiness.

RC : How do you organize your time for crafting?
SS : I have a fixed routine for crafting in which either I create projects or I try to learn and explore more about new techniques and tricks.I make sure I packup before 6 pm so that I always can spend time with my husband...but during hectic schedules..I work late nights(that's the time I feel the most creative me!!)

RC : Tips for people who want to craft?
SS : Just do what you love to do...Crafting field is boundless and there is huge range of materials and techniques which you can try your hand on.Just be confident..and don't get disappointed with your failures..it is something you will always learn from.

Colouring Tips

Hello All!! Welcome to another Itsy Bitsy tutorial. Itsy Bitsy has just introduced Colour Yoga, Colouring Books for Adults - Nature, Geometrical, Damask, Classic and Floral. These books will allow you to start your day most creatively or let you relax after a hard day's work. It's an excellent arena for colour yoga & is an excellent alternative to meditation, letting you relax, de-stress and rejuvenate.

Colour your favourite design using a marker, colour pencil or by combining both. You can also add dimension to your designs with shading. In this tutorial, we shall show easy techniques of colouring using coloured pencils.

But, before we get to that, let us understand colours first.

Understanding Colours :

There are three types of colours –
Primary colours – Red, Blue & Yellow
Secondary colours – Orange, Green & Purple (created by combining 2 primary colours)
Tertiary colours – Yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple, red-purple & red-orange (created by mixing adjacent primary & secondary colours).
A tint is a colour plus white & a shade is a colour plus black.
We can further classify colours as warm (red, yellow & orange) & calm colours (green, blue & purple).

So, let’s get started & master this art!!
Materials required:
Colour Yoga Coloring book
Colour pencil – Lemon yellow, orange, light green, cobalt green, red, pink (you can choose the colours of your choice)

Method :
Step 1: Use yellow and orange colour pencils to colour the head of owl. We recommend that you use light pressure and colour in circular pattern. Sharpen the pencil to a fine point and draw very small overlapping circular marks.
Step 2: Colour the entire area as shown using orange and yellow colour gently. The best way to shade is to just alter pressure on your pencil.
Step 3: Using two or more colours and blending it to bring a smooth finish is essential in colour blending technique. In this case, use orange and red colour and blend thoroughly. The trick is to put a lighter shade and then overlap it with a darker colour, burnishing the previous colour.
Step 4: Colour the flower pink. Darken the shade towards the middle of the flower and shade lighter as you move towards the petals.
Step 5: Intensify shading towards to edges. Try to cover the area smoothly at the light end and then increase pressure as you colour towards the darker end.
Step 6: Colour both the wings yellow followed by 2 different shades of green. Each colour should smoothly blend with the previous shade. Layering darker colours over light or medium shade is recommended as it adds colour and darkens and not vice versa.
Step 7: Use yellow, red and orange to shade the body.
Relax your way into one of these patterns & you can find yourself twirled together with cords of colours in a fantasy land as beautiful as your childhood dreams. Bid adieu to stress forever with our colouring books. :-) :-)
